Who likes being stuck in a box. Beth Dittos idea of stepping out is beyond brilliant to me. Because of her rebellious ways she has succeeded in making a name for herself. Beth Ditto is the lead singer for the band Gossip and has taken the fashion world by surprise. Check out the video below for more on Beth Ditto!

ANYTHING GOES

I'm sure you have heard that fashion is in one day and out the next. To be fashionable one doesn't have to follow every trend that is set year in and year out, or dress a certain way because it's not the new black. Instead you have to realize that fashion is about being innovative and creative. For me fashion is anything, it's every day and every season. It's whatever I feel good in.

THE SHOULDER PAD THEN & NOW

It was in the 1930's when the shoulder pad became popular in fashion. One year later, in 1931, Elsa Schiaparelli included them in her collection. In 1932, the trend was set when they were worn by Joan Crawford in the film Letty Lynton. Throughout the years shoulder pads would come and go in the fashion world while taking on new identities for itself.
In the 1980's woman took the shoulder pads to a whole new level by wearing them in a more masculine way. They were worn by many women looking to break that stereotype image and to help them be successful in the corporate world, very similar to the ladies of the hit TV series Dynasty.
Surprisingly enough they made their way right back on the scene when appearing in many designer collections of 2007. I believe shoulder pads and other trends from the 1980's are currently successful due to the chicness of today's modern design.

MARY KATE & ASHLEY OLSEN

The Olsen twins are doing well for themselves these days. The two fashion gurus were spotted in New York City on October 21, 2009 with CFDA President and renowned fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. I'm sure they were honored to accept their elite membership to the Council Of Fashion Designers Of America. Designers Alexander Wang, Jason Wu and Maria Pinto are also new members of the CFDA.

The following week the girls visited Good Morning America to discuss and promote their new fashion venture Olsenboye. Olsenboye is a junior collection known to hit 50 select JCPenney stores for a limited time starting on November 6, 2009. In February, their line will spread out to 600 more stores and will retail between $20-$50.

LACEWORK
Stella McCartneyFrom the runway to fashion events and social gatherings it seems that lace has made a flawless entrance onto the fashion scene. Lace is being worn by many celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and the ever so sexy Ms. Rihanna! Above we have a pair of lace bunny ears designed by Maison Michel, sunglasses from designer Kerin Rose, and last but not least a black lace gown from Stella McCartney. It is pretty amazing how lace can be used in so many ways. I find it to be quite bold and elegant and never the less a timeless piece of fashion.
